Nestlé, one of the biggest food and drink companies known nowadays, announced its decision to reach 100% recyclable and reusable packaging by 2025.
The purpose of this campaign is that every single piece of product packaging, including the ones made from plastic, doesn’t go to the landfill. According to Nestlé, all packaging must be reduced drastically in order to have a real impact.
“Plastic waste is one of the biggest sustainability issues the world is facing today. Tackling it requires a collective approach. We are committed to finding improved solutions to reduce, re-use and recycle. Our ambition is to achieve 100% recyclable or reusable packaging by 2025.”, said Mark Schneider, Nestlé’s CEO.
The focus of the company will be divided in three main areas:
>> to eliminate the plastics that are not recyclable
>> to encourage the usage of plastics with a better recycling rate
>> to eliminate or at least change complex combinations of packaging materials
Nestlé’s portfolio of products includes food, bottled water, breakfast cereals, coffee, tea, dairy products, ice cream, baby food, pet food, frozen food and snacks. The vision is that none of their packaging, including the plastic ones, ends up in the landfill as litter by 2025 – only 7 years from now.
