Contemporary Jeanne d’Arc, fearless Alice from Resident Evil, humanoid woman Leelo from The Fifth Element, musician, model, designer. Those are some of the many faces of Milla Jovovich, who is celebrating her 43rd birthday today.
Milla Jovovich was born in Kiev in 1975. Her mother was a Russian actress and her father was a Serbian doctor. When Mila was only 5 years old, her family emigrated to London and afterwards moved to California. Miss Jovovich attended a public school in Los Angeles, which she left at the age of 12 to pursue a career as model. Given the fact that she worked with photographers such as Peter Lindbergh and she was the cover star for Vogue and Cosmopolitan, we can definitely agree that she achieved modelling success.
Since 1985, Milla started taking acting classes. In 1988, she played her first role – Lily McLeod in The Night Train to Kathmandu. In 1991, she was given the leading role in Return to the Blue Lagoon.
Milla also has two studio albums – The Divine Comedy (1994) and The People Tree Sessions (1998) – and a few singles. Here are some of the most memorable roles in her acting career:
Chaplin (1992)

Her first marriage was to Shawn Andrews – her on-screen boyfriend in Dazed and Confused. Milla was only 16 years old and the marriage was annulled by her mother two months later. Her second marriage was to French director Luc Besson in 1997. The couple married in Las Vegas and got a divorce after two years. In 2009, Jovovich married Paul Anderson, another film director. They have two children – daughters Ever Gabo Anderson and Dashiel Edan.
Happy birthday, Milla Jovovich!
