Autumn is not only the time of the year when the colours around are changing so beautifully, but also the time when the American Music Awards take place.
The awards are presented every year for multiple musical genres: Pop/Rock, Alternative Rock, Country, Rap/Hip-Hop, Soul/R&B, Adult Contemporary, Contemporary Inspirational, Latin, EDM/Soundtrack, alongside awards for New Artist of the Year, Collaboration of the Year, Tour of the Year, Video of the Year, Favourite Song, Male and Female Artist of the Year. The nominees are based on fans’ voting, song sales, radio airplay, social activity and touring.
This year, the music show was held for the 46th time, hosted by the Emmy-nominated actress Tracee Ellis Ross. On top of the winners’ list are Taylor Swift and Camila Cabello who took four awards each!
Let’s see some of the winners for 2018:
Taylor Swift
Taylor got the awards for Artist of the Year, Tour of the year, Favourite Female Artist – Pop/Rock and Favourite Album in Pop/Rock genre for her sixth studio album “Reputation”.
Camila Cabello
Another winner with 4 awards is Camila Cabello, who won New artist of the year, Favourite music video (Camila Cabello ft. Young Thug “Havana”), Collaboration of the year (Camila Cabello ft. Young Thug “Havana”) and Favourite Song in Pop/Rock genre (with the same song).
Post Malone
The soft music style of Post Malone ensured him the award for Favourite Male Artist in Pop/Rock genre and the award for Favourite Album – Rap/Hip-Hop for his Beerbongs & Bentleys. These were Malone’s first music awards. His debut single White Iverson came out in 2015 and since then he has been acknowledged as one of the most successful young artists in Pop, Rap, Hip-Hop and R&B.
Khalid
American singer and songwriter Khalid won the award for Favourite Male Artist – Soul/R&B this year. His debut single – Location, was released in July 2016 and peaked at number 16 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. Later that year, Location was certified quadruple-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
Rihanna
At AMA 2018 the prize for Favourite Soul/R&B Female Artist went one more time to Rihanna. She won the award for the 7th time (she also won in this category in 2007, 2008, 2010, 2013, 2015 and 2016).
Cardi B
Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, also known as Cardi B, got the award for Favourite Artist – Rap/Hip-Hop and Favourite Song – Rap/Hip-Hop with the song Bodak Yellow. She also won the award for Favourite Song – Soul/R&B for her collaboration with Bruno Mars in the song Finesse.
XXXTENTACION
The album 17 got American rapper, singer and songwriter XXXTENTACION the 2018 Favourite Soul/R&B Album award. His mother Cleopatra Bernard accepted the AMA on behalf of her late son.
