Met Gala 2018 – the best dressed

Met Gala 2018 – the best dressed

The Met Gala, also known as the Costume Institute Gala, is an annual fundraising gala event for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Each year, the event celebrates the opening of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit. The theme of the fashion exhibition sets the tone of the dress code for the formal event.

This year, it was Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.

We are starting the list with this year’s co-hosts (along with Anna Wintour): Amal ClooneyRihanna and Donatella Versace. George Clooney’s wife wore a Richard Quinn ensemble (remember Richard Quinn with the Queen Elisabeth Award for British Design?), Rihanna paid a tribute to The Pope in a special outfit by the almighty John Galliano and Donatella opted for – wait for it – a Versace design.
Mrs. Wintour herself looked like Cardinal Chanel in a long gown with dedicated jewelry.

Next stop: the IT models. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was what we call a stylish (Victoria’s Secret) angel. If only all angels wore Ralph Lauren capes… Gigi Hadid chose an asymmetric Versace gown, while sister Bella Hadid was more like a lost sinner in black latex. Winnie Harlow wore white, the Tommy Hilfiger shade of white, and combined it with an extravagant headpiece. But what was even more extravagant was Cara Delevingne’s Christian Dior composition. Was it a dress, was it a cape, was it a cage? We will never know.

Apart from pure beauty and good acting, there is another thing that is valid for both Blake Lively and Priyanka Chopra: their impeccable taste at Met Gala gowns in darker shades of red. Rumor has it that Blake’s dress took 600 hours of preparation. Let us pray that’s just an urban myth.
