Microsoft just announced some major plans: not just to reduce its carbon print, but to become carbon neutral by 2030! And that’s not all…
The company has also pledged to become carbon negative by 2050. That is correct – carbon negative. That means it is going to remove more carbon from the atmosphere that it is emitting. In Microsoft’s case, the goal is to compensate for all the carbon emissions since it was founded in 1975 till nowadays.
“While the world will need to reach net zero, those of us who can afford to move faster and go further should do so. That’s why today we are announcing an ambitious goal and a new plan to reduce and ultimately remove Microsoft’s carbon footprint.
By 2030 Microsoft will be carbon negative, and by 2050 Microsoft will remove from the environment all the carbon the company has emitted either directly or by electrical consumption since it was founded in 1975.”
The company has a detailed plan for its steps in the next decade. It includes 100% renewable energy, electrified global campus operations vehicles, expansion of the existing forests and many other small and big steps.
